NPR’s internship program includes several visually-oriented newsroom jobs, working with the News Apps, Visuals and Science teams.
Our paid fall/winter internship program runs from Oct. 3, 2022, to April 15, 2023. In this super-sized internship term, interns may have the opportunity to work with multiple teams in the NPR newsroom and develop a wider range of experience. DEADLINE EXTENDED: Applications are due Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 11:59pm ET.
To be eligible, you must be a college student (undergraduate or graduate) or a person who has graduated no more than 12 months prior to the start of the internship period. You must be planning to work from the United States and authorized to work in the United States throughout the internship term.
For half of the internship, you will be part of the NewsHub team, where you will pitch, report and write stories for NPR’s website and learn what it takes to make those stories go big across digital platforms. For the other half of the internship, you will be embedded with the News Apps/Graphics team, focusing on graphics, data visualization and visual storytelling.
This position could be a good fit for someone experienced with graphics and data analysis who wants to improve their reporting skills, or for a reporter with some graphics experience who wants to build stronger graphics/coding chops.
This internship has the flexibility to be on site at our Washington, D.C., office, fully remote, and/or a hybrid version of the two based on the intern’s preference.
This internship is an opportunity to learn more about the world of photo editing. Our goal isn’t to make you into a photo editor; we view this internship as a chance for you to understand what it is like to be an editor and improve your visual literacy, which can help you become a better photographer.
On the Visuals Desk, the intern will focus on editing and commissioning visuals for stories for news, national, culture, politics and podcasts. They will also work on content for our other visuals platforms including Instagram. The Visuals Desk intern will work across the newsroom and podcasts. On the Science Desk, interns will edit and commission visuals for stories on global and domestic health, climate change and general science. As one of the largest desks at NPR, interns will have the opportunity to work with over 30 reporters, producers and editors.
This internship will be fully remote.
The NPR Music Video Intern will assist in the production of a range of editorial projects, spanning podcasts, short-form video, Tiny Desk, Alt.Latino and more. We look for video producers who can balance multiple tasks at once, translate big ideas into smart and compelling visuals and who are excited to help NPR Music reach new audiences, especially on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. This is a paid, full-time, 40-hour a week internship working remotely. It will require occasional late nights/odd hours.
